75 years of FSU Coastal and Marine Research Lab in St Teresa, Fla!!
In preparation for Earth Day, I spent Saturday at the FSU Coastal and Marine Lab Open House. Spoke with students fascinated with studying oysters, seagrasses, horseshoe crabs and littoral marine life! It was pleasant to see that level of enthusiasm and interest in what could be considered mundane and minimal changes in oyster bed density, the northward movement of mangroves, and dune vegetation but they were right there on it and willing to tell anyone interested!
Met Jonathan Bruckner, Aquatic Preserve Manager and talked for a time about seagrass and how our bays and estuaries can't thrive without it! Met the good people at RiverKeepers who carry your interests and mine in keeping the Apalachicola a vibrant river providing for the Apalachee estuaries. People were there to discuss Aquatic Preserves, Turtle protection, safe boating, coastal resilience, not to mention a silent auction. DONT MISS your chance to weigh in on OIL DRILLING in the Apalachicola River Basin. A link is provided below!
They will do it again next year. The drive was fun. Spent the night in Carrabelle, had drinks at Harry's, and dinner at Fisherman's Wife Restaurant. Chalk that one up as a Great Day Trip!
